Paul Allender was incredibly helpful as he wrote the introduction for the "Overlooked" show (link to intro). Paul is a Research Associate for the University of Sheffield. Paul and his colleagues have brought together a show at The Scottish Queen based on their research project ‘Imagine’.
Park Hill Re-imagined - The Scottish Queen, Park Hill
Saturday 7th November 2015, 12 till 8pm
Welcome and drinks event 6pm-8pm - 7th November 2015
Sunday 8th November 2015, 10am to 4pm
Monday 9th November 2015, 10am to 3pm
This exhibition represents the on-going work of the Imagine project in Park Hill. Imagine is a five-year project funded by the ESRC/AHRC’s Connected Communities programme to think about imagining better communities and making them happen. The exhibition shares residents and ex-residents’ perspectives in a number of formats: film, photos, quotations, drawings and archive material. This small exhibition is a precursor for a more extensive one to be held in 2016 at Weston Park Museum.
The project is a co-production between the University of Sheffield and Museums Sheffield. We are currently developing a film about the new Park Hill which will be part of a permanent exhibition at the Museum. You can see some excerpts from this film here in this exhibition.
We also exhibit the work of the photographer Tim Smith, the painter Mandy Payne, and selections from the voluminous archive of Grace Owen nursery school. The children from Grace Owen take centre-stage with some recently created pictures of ‘their’ Park Hill.
This exhibition is a snapshot of ideas about Park Hill now and in the past. It hopefully offers some food for thought about what life is like living and working in this modernist block of flats.
